The Role

Your role as CAD Designer is to uphold this vision by ensuring the company’s sculptural pieces of art, and the materials and processes used are represented accurately and efficiently, ensuring our clients enjoy an unrivaled experience during the important early phases of their journey with us. 

 

Reporting to the Design and Estimation Manager, you will be expected to efficiently design and draw the company’s sculptural pieces of art to the required brand standards, maintaining excellent quality and communication for right-first-time manufacturing in our extensive fabrication workshops.

Key Responsibilities

  • A comprehensive understanding of material, processes and techniques used by Cox London is essential.
  • Knowledge of and a keen interest in the design and manufacturing of lighting and furniture particularly in metal from cast bronze to forged steel and beyond.
  • A great communicator: you will be professional, easy-going and alert, building close working relationships throughout the business from Sales through to shop floor fabricators, in addition to knowing how to conduct yourself in occasional Client-facing roles.
  • An eye for detail, finish and form, and an ability to maintain efficient safe database administration of drawings and shared assets.
  • Working within the Design codes of Cox London, you will create Bespoke drawings of the standard (Masterpiece) collection, and hand sketch, ideate and draw up unique commissioned works according to the Client brief.
  • Preparation of design and manufacturing drawings in AutoCAD and Inventor, and interpret Client’s architectural drawings.
  • Checking prototypes and work in progress against manufacturing drawings, with the confidence to highlight anomalies with middle management. 
  • Drafting of accurate, detailed, client-friendly installation and aftercare guidance.
  • Liaise with and briefing of fabricators to ensure drawings are well understood and client expectations are exceeded.
  • Understanding and working to meet and improve upon key metrics and departmental KPI’s.

  • Autodesk Product Design & Manufacturing Collection, including: Inventor Professional and Auto CAD; Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Keen to work on-site - the role requires regular liaison with many departments and colleagues in fabrication.

Skills & experience (desirable)

  • Familiarity of working with a Bill of Materials
  • A confident hand sketcher - not afraid to take feedback and design direction.
  • Good working knowledge of Rhino 3D and rendering software such as Keyshot, or similar.
  • Experience of working with or designing for timber, glass and stone, ceramics and textiles.
  • Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, but applications from less experienced rising stars are welcome.

Qualifications

  • BA(Hons) or BSc Product Design, Architecture or comparable.
