The Role
Your role as Assistant Accountant is to support the company’s commitment to financial accuracy and integrity through efficient management of daily accounting operations and reporting. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will ensure transactions are processed correctly, records are maintained accurately, and financial reporting deadlines are met. With strong attention to detail and proactive communication, you will help uphold robust financial control, support audits and compliance, and contribute to continuous improvement across the finance function.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, ensuring timely payments and managing ledgers.
- Track overdue accounts, liaising with clients and suppliers to resolve outstanding balances.
- Conduct daily and monthly bank reconciliations, resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Manage employee expenses, processing claims accurately per company policies.
- Record and monitor expenses, ensuring proper classification and coding.
- Enter financial data into accounting software with accuracy, maintaining organized records.
- Assist in preparing monthly management accounts including analysis.
- Assist in monthly balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the accuracy and completeness of accounts.
- Prepare audit schedules and provide necessary documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support other tax-related compliance activities as required.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis to aid decision-making.
- Prepare and post accruals and prepayments monthly to ensure accurate expense recording.
- Maintain and update the fixed assets register, processing additions, disposals, and depreciation.
- Support month-end close activities and other finance functions as needed.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to increase department efficiency.

Knowledge & experience
- Previous experience in a similar accounting role.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and statutory requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Familiarity with accounting software (experience with Xero is a plus).
- You will be proactive in nature with the confidence to drive change and communicate efficiently.
Qualifications
- Part-qualified ACCA, CIMA, or AAT Level 3 or equivalent accounting qualification.
