These two apprenticeships are three-year, full-time placements where you earn as you learn. In your foundation year, you’ll get a 360-degree view of Cox London and Guild Bespoke Metalworks, with hands-on training from warehouse and production to commercial sales and finance, alongside learning ancient crafts. You’ll also benefit from an accredited external Business Skills course. At the end of the first year, you’ll be assessed in specialist areas (Fabrication, Patination, Wiring, and Foundry) and choose one area to specialise in during years two and three.

Combining on-the-job, hands-on training (4 days/week) with studying (1 day/week), you’ll engage with mentors, managers, and a close-knit community daily, who will support your journey and provide the guidance and insight you need to thrive.

What You’ll Do:

· You’ll spend time in each department at Cox London and Guild Bespoke Metalworks, learning about all aspects of our businesses.

· You’ll become competent using basic machinery and power tools, learning about materials and developing hand-making and dexterity skills.

· You’ll learn the importance of accuracy, attention to detail, and quality in the finishing process.

Where You’ll Work:

Cox London’s head office and workshops are in Tottenham Hale, London. You’ll also spend time at Guild Bespoke Metalworks in Stockbridge, Hampshire (travel and/or accommodation paid for by Cox London).

Eligibility Criteria

We are looking for a Junior Production Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a key role in developing and optimising production processes. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and implementing SOPs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance efficiency, maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs), and ensuring quality control standards are met. You will work closely with production technicians to identify process improvements and support lean manufacturing initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

– Develop, document and implement SOPs for all production stages, including fabrication, welding, assembly, and patination (finishing/painting).

– Collaborate with design, production, and quality team to ensure SOPs ,BOMs and drawings align with best practices.

– Maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to ensure accurate material listings

– Train production teams on new SOPs, BOM updates and Lean best practices to ensure compliance and efficiency.

– Ensure quality control standards are met, reducing defects and enhancing product consistency.

– Support lean manufacturing initiatives, process optimization, and waste reduction strategies.

– Work closely with production technicians on the shop floor to draft SOP’s and ensure SOPs are followed correctly and identify areas for process improvement.

– Degree/Diploma in Production, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).

As a Patination, Finishing and Wiring Technician, you will be developing your understanding of metal finishing processes with a natural ability for practical manufacturing processes involved in the finishing of high-quality interior products such as furniture and lighting. Each member of the technical finishing team is expected to be adaptable and inventive, learning and developing the variety of processes and finishes as per the Cox London house style.

 

You will be expected to work within the tasks provided as per the costs applied to each individual job brief. To be successful in this role, you will need to be self-motivated towards learning new techniques for custom finishes and bespoke orders. Each project assigned to you will be required to be finished within a reasonable time frame and within specification, meeting with the client’s needs and the company’s high standards. Your goal is to maintain a quality service provided to customers by upholding company standards, values, and behaviours.

 Key Responsibilities Include

  • Practice, learn, develop, and perfect metalwork processes as required within Cox London workshops.
  • Apply cold and hot patinas on various metal surfaces to achieve a range of finishes as per Cox London’s design standards.
  • Lacquer and distress metal surfaces to create antique or custom finishes.
  • Spray special effect finishes onto steel surfaces to achieve unique colours and textures.
  • Assemble and fit mirrors, glass pieces, and chandeliers, ensuring secure and precise installation.
  • Perform glasswork tasks, including beading chandeliers, fitting glass into frames, and cutting glass to size as required.
  • Operate machinery, such as scratch mops and polishing wheels, for finishing processes.
  • Use hand tools (e.g. drills, pliers, hammers) for metalwork, patination, and glass-related tasks.
  • Perform some heavy lifting as part of handling and installing of larger pieces.
  • Wire and electrify chandeliers, utilising soldering techniques.
  • Participate in PAT/wire testing, ensuring all electrical work meets safety and quality standards.

The Job

We are recruiting a Fabrication Technician to join Cox Production Team responsible for the manufacturing of Cox pieces. Each member of this team is expected to be adaptable and inventive, learning and developing the variety of processes and finishes as per the Cox London house style.

You will be expected to fabricate company products to the required standards within specification, in full and on time meeting the costed hours for fabrication.

This technical role is for the fabrication of high end interior products. You need to be and expert in your field with high level experience and knowledge of metal working and fabrication processes, predominantly in brass but also ferrous metals suitable for furniture & lighting manufacture.

We are looking for a reliable hardworking person with initiative, high standards and a professional outlook. The successful candidate will have the ability to maintain our quality service provided to customers by upholding company standards, values and behaviours.

Duties and Responsibilities
Producing high quality furniture and lighting as per the specifications provided ensuring items are produced in full, on time and in spec
